Noel Gallagher has addressed the controversy surrounding ticket sales for the highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour, admitting he was taken aback by the overwhelming demand.
When tickets for the much-awaited shows were first announced in August, the band took measures to combat ticket scalping by partnering with resale platform Twickets and issuing a warning that tickets resold for profit on other sites would be cancelled. Despite these precautions, when tickets went on sale, they sold out instantly after fans endured hours-long queues, with reports stating that around 50,000 tickets, roughly four per cent of total sales, still ended up on resale sites. Some tickets were even listed for as much as £10,000, prompting Oasis to reiterate their stance, stating on social media that tickets could only be resold at face value via Ticketmaster and Twickets.
In February, Ticketmaster cancelled thousands of tickets in an attempt to crack down on bot activity. However, many legitimate fans claimed they had been wrongly targeted. Ticketmaster responded by directing affected customers to their ‘Oasis Refunds FAQ’ page for assistance.
Now, in a recent interview with former NME photographer Kevin Cummins for his new book Oasis: The Masterplan, set for release on March 27, Noel Gallagher shared his reaction to the situation. “I thought it'd be a big deal, but I was a bit taken aback by just how much of a big deal it was,” he admitted.
Alongside addressing the ticket chaos, Gallagher also took the opportunity to reveal some of his favourite Oasis songs, giving fans insight into the tracks that mean the most to him from the band’s iconic discography. While he didn’t disclose a full list, his reflections have reignited excitement around the reunion and what may be in store for fans lucky enough to secure tickets.
