Airports across the Canary Islands welcomed 4,109,173 passengers in May of this year, marking a 4.4% increase compared to the same month of 2024, according to figures released by AENA, Spain’s airport operator.
Of the total, 4,094,585 were commercial flight passengers. Domestic air travel from other parts of Spain rose by 5.7%, reaching 1,927,859 passengers, while international flights accounted for 2,166,726 passengers, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%.
In addition to the rise in passenger numbers, the archipelago's airports managed 38,353 aircraft movements (arrivals and departures), up 4.2% from May 2024. However, freight transport saw a slight decrease, with 2,712 tonnes handled, down 0.9% compared to the same month last year.

From January to May 2025, Canary Islands airports recorded 22,842,734 passengers, an increase of 4.8% compared to the same period in 2024. Of these, 22,715,450 were on commercial flights: 8,714,060 on domestic routes (+4.8%) and 14,001,390 on international routes (+5.1%).
Aircraft movements totalled 202,803 during the first five months of the year, up 5.3% compared to 2024. Freight traffic for the same period dropped by 3.3%, with 13,273 tonnes handled.
