Strictly Come Dancing fans were left reeling on Sunday night after Lewis Cope was dramatically voted out of the competition, a result many viewers are calling one of the most shocking eliminations of the series.
The Emmerdale star and his professional partner Katya Jones found themselves in the unexpected position of facing the dreaded dance-off, going head-to-head with Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin for a coveted spot in next week’s semi-finals. Despite both couples scoring highly during Saturday’s Musicals Week live show, it was Lewis who ultimately lost his place in the competition.
Amber and Nikita, who topped the leaderboard with an impressive perfect score of 40 for their high-energy Charleston to Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat from Guys and Dolls, were first to take to the dancefloor in the dance-off. The pair delivered yet another polished and crowd-pleasing performance that drew rapturous applause from the studio audience.
Lewis and Katya then stepped forward to perform their Salsa to Dance at the Gym from West Side Story. Their routine was praised by judges on Saturday night for its athleticism, musicality and chemistry, and many fans believed the duo had done more than enough to secure their place in the semi-finals.
But the judges did not agree.
While the decision initially appeared split, it was Motsi Mabuse who delivered the casting vote after Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas all opted to save Amber and Nikita. Motsi echoed her colleagues, choosing to send the former Love Island star through to the next round.

The result left the audience stunned, and social media even more so.
Within minutes of the elimination airing, X (formerly Twitter) was flooded with anger, disappointment and disbelief. Many viewers argued that Lewis had been “robbed,” with some calling the outcome “one of the worst decisions in years.” Hundreds pointed out that Lewis had been consistently strong throughout the competition, showing growth, range, and a strong connection with Katya.
Several fans argued that Lewis deserved to lift this year’s Glitterball Trophy, calling him “the people’s champion” and praising his journey from underdog to standout performer. Others criticised the format, insisting the dance-off does not always reflect the dancers’ overall progress or weekly improvement.
Despite the backlash, Lewis took his elimination graciously. He thanked Katya for her support and guidance, as well as the viewers who had kept him in the competition for so long. Katya, known for her passion and fiery choreography, paid tribute to Lewis’ hard work, praising his dedication and willingness to push himself week after week.
Amber and Nikita now join the remaining couples heading into the semi-finals, where competition is tighter than ever and every point counts. Their advancement solidifies them as frontrunners, but the controversy surrounding Lewis’ exit may continue to overshadow the upcoming rounds.
With the Glitterball final fast approaching, fans will be watching closely to see whether the judges’ decision will ultimately prove justified, or whether Lewis Cope’s departure will remain one of the biggest Strictly talking points of the year.
