Tulisa Pulls Out of Pride Event Following Father’s Death

Singer and TV personality Tulisa has withdrawn from a scheduled Pride event this weekend following the death of her father, Steve Contostavlos.

Steve, a talented musician known to many as Plato, was a keyboard player with the popular 1970s band Mungo Jerry, best remembered for their enduring hit In The Summertime. Reports suggest he passed away earlier this week at around 65 years of age.

Tulisa, who rose to fame as part of the chart-topping group N-Dubz before carving out a successful solo career and becoming an X Factor judge, is said to be “devastated” and has understandably chosen to step back from her work commitments to grieve with her family.

She had been booked to perform at the Pride After Party at London’s Clapham Grand on Saturday night, an event which is expected to attract hundreds of revellers celebrating London Pride.

On Thursday evening, the venue confirmed the news in a heartfelt post on Instagram, writing:

“PRIDE UPDATE… We are sorry to announce that due to a family bereavement, Tulisa will understandably no longer be joining us for our Pride After Party on Saturday. We are sending Tulisa and her family all of our love.”

Fans have flooded social media with messages of support for the singer, many sharing memories of her father’s music as well as her own career highlights. One wrote: “So sorry to hear this, Tulisa. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.”

Tulisa has previously spoken openly about her family life and her father’s influence on her love of music, telling one interviewer: “Music was always in the house growing up. My dad lived and breathed it.”

Steve Contostavlos was a beloved figure on the British music scene in the early 1970s. As Plato, he toured widely with Mungo Jerry, whose feel-good sound made them one of the defining acts of the decade.

For now, Tulisa is taking time away from the spotlight, with no word yet on when she plans to return to performing.
