After years of being overlooked at the Academy Awards, Top Gun star Tom Cruise is finally getting his moment. The iconic actor has been selected to receive an Honorary Oscar for his lifetime achievements in film, a move that’s got Hollywood buzzing.
The news was confirmed by the Academy, who praised Cruise for his commitment to the craft, including his groundbreaking work in action films and his unwavering support of the theatrical experience.
"Tom Cruise's incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all," said Academy President Janet Yang in a statement.

Cruise has previously been nominated three times, twice for Best Actor (Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire), and once for Best Supporting Actor (Magnolia), but has never taken home the gold. Until now.
Joining Cruise in this prestigious honour is none other than Dolly Parton, the country music queen and Hollywood icon. Parton will be presented with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in recognition of her immense charitable contributions over the decades.
From 9 to 5 to Steel Magnolias, Dolly’s movie legacy is undeniable, but it's her Imagination Library, which has given away more than 284 million books to children worldwide, that truly sets her apart.
She’s also had two Oscar nominations for Best Original Song, including the unforgettable title track from 9 to 5.
Both legends will receive their Oscars at the Governors Awards gala this November, joining an elite list of previous recipients like Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, and Cary Grant.
