Sony Pictures has officially unveiled the all-star cast for its ambitious Beatles biopic project, with Irish actors Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan stepping into the roles of Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr, respectively. The highly anticipated series, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sir Sam Mendes, will consist of four separate films, each focusing on one of the legendary band members.
Joining Mescal and Keoghan in the lineup are Harris Dickinson, who will portray John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn, who takes on the role of George Harrison. The casting news was revealed during the CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas, where the actors and director took the stage to discuss the groundbreaking project.
Sir Sam Mendes described the films as the “first binge-able theatrical experience,” highlighting the unique storytelling approach that will allow each Beatle’s perspective to unfold in a standalone yet interconnected narrative. “I’ve been trying to make a story about The Beatles for years,” Mendes shared, emphasising the significance of the project.
Scheduled for release in April 2028, the films mark an unprecedented collaboration with Apple Corps Ltd and the remaining Beatles themselves, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr, as well as the families of John Lennon and George Harrison. This partnership ensures that the filmmakers have full access to the band’s life story and music rights, a rare and historic move in cinematic storytelling.
With a director of Mendes’ caliber at the helm and a talented ensemble cast bringing the Fab Four to life, anticipation is already building for what promises to be a groundbreaking cinematic event celebrating one of the greatest bands in history.
