A new survey of British cinema-goers has named Tom Holland and Margot Robbie as the stars most likely to become the next generation of Hollywood legends.
The study, commissioned by Compare the Market, polled thousands of film fans to discover who they believe will follow in the footsteps of greats like Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, and Julia Roberts. And the results show a clear admiration for the current crop of young stars making their mark on the big screen.
Tom Holland, best known as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, topped the list, with Barbie and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star Margot Robbie close behind. Rounding out the top five are Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Timothée Chalamet, all of whom have enjoyed a string of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films in recent years.

The research also revealed a growing sense of nostalgia around cinema-going, especially among younger audiences. More than half (51%) of 25- to 34-year-olds say that recent sequels to cult classics have reignited their love of going to the movies, while around two-thirds admit they visit the cinema more now than they did in previous years.
In addition to their picks for Hollywood’s next icons, Brits also called for a uniquely British, iconic film landmark, much like Hollywood’s famous sign. The desire to celebrate UK film culture is also mirrored in how people are consuming movies.
The study highlights how the traditional weekend cinema trip is evolving, as midweek entertainment becomes more desirable. Around 55% of respondents say they crave more ways to break up the week, with four in 10 admitting they rarely do anything fun on worknights. As more people actively seek to shake up their routine, midweek cinema trips are rising in popularity.
Speaking about the results, a spokesperson for Compare the Market said:
“It’s clear that cinema retains a special place in people’s hearts, especially as we see a new generation of stars inspiring audiences. People are seeking meaningful moments, and film is still one of the best ways to escape the everyday.”
With their names already attached to some of the biggest blockbusters and most talked-about performances of recent years, it seems Tom Holland, Margot Robbie, and their peers are well on their way to legendary status, at least in the eyes of British film fans.
