Fans of The Office can finally look forward to a brand-new chapter in the beloved franchise. The highly anticipated spin-off series, The Paper, is officially set to debut in September on US streaming service Peacock. The news was confirmed during an upfront presentation to advertisers, with a first-look image from the show also being unveiled.
The Paper will follow the same documentary-style format that made The Office a global phenomenon, but this time, the focus shifts from the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin to a historic Midwestern newspaper struggling for survival. The official synopsis reads: “The documentary crew that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”
Leading the cast is Domhnall Gleeson, who will portray an idealistic new employee at the struggling newspaper, while Sabrina Impacciatore takes on the role of his no-nonsense managing editor. Fans of the original series will also be delighted to see a familiar face, Oscar Nuñez, who reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, now serving as the newspaper’s accountant. In the trailer, Oscar is shown reacting with shock and mild disappointment as he recognises the documentary crew from his previous job.
The spin-off is co-created by Greg Daniels, who was instrumental in adapting The Office for American audiences, transforming it from a UK original by Ricky Gervais into a cultural phenomenon. Daniels' return as co-creator has already sparked excitement among long-time fans of the franchise.

While The Paper has a confirmed release date in the US, there is no word yet on when it will air in the UK or other international markets. However, with the show's connection to The Office, it is expected to generate significant global interest.
