Fans of Ted Lasso can finally rejoice, the hugely popular Apple TV+ comedy is officially back in production for its fourth season, more than two years after the emotional season three finale.
The heartwarming series, led by Jason Sudeikis as the endlessly optimistic American football coach-turned-Premier League manager, seemingly wrapped up in May 2023, leaving many unsure if Richmond AFC’s story had truly come to an end.
But earlier this year, Apple confirmed what fans had been hoping to hear: Ted Lasso was renewed for a fourth season, and the beloved cast would be returning. Now, filming is officially underway, and the first behind-the-scenes tease has already sparked plenty of speculation.
In a short clip posted to YouTube, Sudeikis is seen alongside cast members Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift sitting in what appears to be a classic American diner. The video playfully acknowledges the change of scenery, with a caption that reads: “We’re not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.”
The new setting suggests a shake-up for the show, which previously centred around AFC Richmond’s fortunes in the English Premier League. At the end of season three, Ted made the emotional decision to return to his home in Kansas to spend more time with his son.
However, the new season’s logline hints that Ted may not stay away from the pitch for long. According to Apple, “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
This new challenge could see Ted, Rebecca, Keeley and the rest of the Richmond family facing fresh obstacles and adventures, blending the show’s signature humour and heartfelt moments with a bold new chapter for the characters.
Fans have been quick to express their excitement online, with one writing on social media: “I didn’t realise how much I missed Ted Lasso until now. Bring it on!” Another said: “Ted coaching a women’s team? Brilliant idea. Can’t wait to see how they tackle it.”
For now, Apple has not confirmed a release date for the new season, but with filming already underway, fans can likely expect season four to premiere sometime in 2026.
The series has won over critics and audiences alike since it first aired in 2020, earning multiple Emmy Awards and a devoted global following. This next season promises to build on that success while taking the story, and the characters , in a fresh direction.
