The much-loved series, originally fronted by the late, great Cilla Black, is being rebooted for a new generation, and fans of the classic Saturday night staple are already buzzing with excitement. While early rumours pointed to a BBC revival, it's now being reported that the revived series will instead land on the streaming platform Disney+.
According to The Sun, the new version won’t just be a carbon copy of the original, producers are reportedly planning a major twist involving a very high-stakes prize: a wedding package.
A source revealed, “There will be a prize up for grabs of a wedding package, which echoes Cilla’s famous gag whenever couples had enjoyed a successful date, and she used to ask, ‘Do I need to buy an ‘at for the wedding?’”
The new series is expected to retain the charm, humour, and romantic intrigue that made Blind Date a national treasure during its original run from 1985 to 2003. It briefly returned in 2017 with Paul O’Grady as host, but the latest reboot promises a fresh spin and broader appeal to streaming audiences.
While no official host has been announced yet, several big names are being floated, including Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman, This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby, and TV favourite Davina McCall. Each brings their own fanbase, charisma, and hosting experience, making the decision a tough one for producers.
