ITV has announced a brand-new six-part crime drama, Frauds, starring two of Britain’s most acclaimed television talents, Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Vigil) and Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who, Broadchurch).
The series promises high stakes, intricate plotting, and emotional depth, as Jones and Whittaker take on the roles of Bert and Sam, two women whose complicated shared history comes crashing back into their lives after a decade apart.
Set against the vibrant yet dangerous backdrop of Southern Spain, Frauds sees the pair drawn back together when their intertwined past resurfaces. As old wounds reopen and trust is tested, they’re pulled into a thrilling world of deception, danger, and high-stakes crime.
Filmed on location in Spain earlier this year, the series boasts a supporting cast including Karan Gill (The Lazarus Project), Christian Cooke (Ordeal by Innocence), and Talisa Garcia (Baptiste). The warm Mediterranean landscapes contrast sharply with the dark undercurrents of betrayal, risk, and shifting loyalties that run through the drama.

The concept was developed by Suranne Jones alongside Maryland creator Anne-Marie O’Connor, who also penned the scripts. This collaboration marks a creative leap for Jones, who not only stars in but also helped shape the direction of the story.
Speaking about the project, Jones shared her excitement:
“We took the idea of toxic female friendship and turned it on its head to give the heist genre an emotional heartbeat. I’ve always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am. I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.”
For fans of clever, character-driven crime stories, Frauds looks set to offer something fresh. The heist genre has traditionally focused on male-driven narratives, but here, the emotional complexity and depth of the female leads take centre stage.
Jodie Whittaker, known for her ability to blend vulnerability with grit, is expected to bring her trademark energy and emotional nuance to Sam, a woman navigating the dangerous intersections of past loyalties and present risks. Jones, meanwhile, will undoubtedly deliver her usual magnetic on-screen presence as Bert, whose past is impossible to escape.
ITV is keeping exact plot details tightly under wraps, but insiders suggest viewers can expect an edge-of-your-seat mix of suspense, twists, and emotional gut punches. With themes of trust, revenge, and survival intertwined with the glamour, and grit, of Spain’s coastal towns, Frauds is shaping up to be one of the must-watch dramas of the year.
