Sugababes singer Keisha Buchanan has spoken candidly about her personal struggles and private heartbreaks, admitting she “doesn’t know how to date” after a recent secret split.
The 39-year-old, who first rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of the chart-topping British girl group, took to her YouTube channel to share a deeply personal update with fans. In a new video titled “Life Update – I missed you!”, Keisha opened up about her love life, her emotional journey, and the toll of past relationships that left her scarred and searching for herself.
Keisha revealed that she had moved to Canada to be with her most recent partner, but the relationship quietly ended after they began living together. Though she didn’t name the ex-partner, she described the situation as difficult to navigate, particularly given the emotional investment she had made.
“I went through a breakup, and we actually were living together in Canada,” she shared. “So my ex-boyfriend is Canadian, and it didn’t work out, and that’s very difficult to kind of navigate.”
The singer also touched on the longer-term effects of an earlier decade-long relationship, which she has previously described as abusive. Her ex, Taiwo Leo Atieno, a former professional footballer, was not directly named in the vlog, but Keisha has spoken publicly before about the emotional trauma that followed that relationship.

In the new video, Keisha bravely admitted that her vulnerability and open-hearted nature has sometimes led her into emotionally damaging situations. “Unfortunately, my vulnerability and my open heart has led to, you know, maybe opening doors to people and things that could definitely destroy a person, or try to at least,” she said.
Though she was initially “low key embarrassed” to share the details, Keisha explained that she felt it was important to be more transparent and connect with fans on a deeper level. “I haven’t had the best response with those [vulnerable moments], or the best experiences when I’ve been that way,” she explained. “But I’m making decisions today that will allow me to enjoy things way more.”
Now, as she prepares to re-enter the dating world, Keisha admits it’s uncharted territory. “I don’t know how to date,” she confessed, laughing at her own honesty. But her new outlook on life is one of healing, self-awareness, and hope for healthier relationships in the future.
The Sugababes are currently enjoying a resurgence, with a loyal fanbase and successful live appearances rekindling interest in the trio’s musical legacy. Despite her personal challenges, Keisha continues to perform, create, and inspire a new generation of women navigating life, love, and self-worth.
