Stephen Mulhern Axes Butlin’s Shows in Shock Exit – Here’s Why He’s Really Leaving

It’s the end of an era for Stephen Mulhern and Butlin’s. The popular entertainer and TV presenter has confirmed he will not renew his £1million contract with the holiday chain after three years of show-stopping performances. His iconic live show, which became a favourite among families at Butlin’s resorts, will not return in 2026.

Fans were stunned by the news, especially given Mulhern’s deep ties to Butlin’s, where he first began his career as a beloved Redcoat entertainer. From the humble beginnings in red blazer and white trousers, Stephen went on to conquer the stages of Minehead, Bognor Regis, and Skegness, delighting crowds with magic, comedy, and charisma.

But all good things come to an end, and according to Stephen’s team, it’s all part of a bigger plan.

A spokesperson revealed to The Mirror: “Stephen has absolutely loved being part of the Butlin’s family, performing his stage shows in front of thousands of holidaymakers across the country. The relationship with Butlin’s remains hugely positive.”

They added that the move will allow him to “explore new opportunities in the family holiday space”, suggesting that exciting new ventures could be on the horizon.

Butlin’s also released a heartfelt statement: “Stephen has been an incredible part of the Butlin’s experience and continues to be a valued member of the family. His much-loved show won’t return in 2026, but we’re thrilled to be working together on ongoing projects this autumn.”

Mulhern’s departure marks a significant change for Butlin’s entertainment programme, which has seen a resurgence in recent years thanks to his high-energy performances. Fans have already taken to social media to express their disappointment, calling the show a "highlight of every holiday."

With Mulhern’s star rising steadily thanks to his work on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, In for a Penny, and Catchphrase, industry insiders say he’s far from slowing down, and could even be launching his own holiday-based TV venture.
