Stacey Solomon is reportedly having second thoughts about her latest TV venture after backlash over her and husband Joe Swash’s dynamic in their new BBC reality show, Stacey and Joe. The series, which offers an intimate look into life at their sprawling Pickle Cottage estate, has sparked controversy among fans, with insiders claiming the former X Factor star is “regretting” signing up for the project.
The show promised to give a down-to-earth insight into the couple’s chaotic family life as they juggle parenting, work, and home life. But instead of the glowing reception Stacey, 35, is used to, viewers have criticised her for being “bossy” and Joe for being “useless”, a portrayal that has reportedly caused tension behind the scenes.
In particular, a moment from the very first episode struck a nerve with fans. Stacey was seen trying to prepare for an important business meeting about her perfume launch while Joe, 43, was away on a fishing trip. Despite Stacey reminding him multiple times of her early meeting, Joe arrived home five hours late, leaving her overwhelmed with childcare duties and scrambling to stay professional in front of her team.
The show didn’t shy away from showing the fallout. An exasperated Stacey told the camera: “Joe was supposed to come home for this meeting but he’s been delayed, indefinitely it seems.” When Joe finally returned, citing a road accident that had supposedly delayed him by 20 minutes, Stacey pointed out that he was in fact five hours late.

Fans were quick to voice their opinions online, with one viewer writing: “Gosh, Joe Swash is not coming across well! He really takes @StaceySolomon for granted.” Another added: “It’s impossible to dislike Joe Swash. But his utterly chaotic approach to looking after five kids turns this reality show into a nightmarishly stressful watch.”
According to The Sun, Stacey is now struggling with the reaction: “She’s not used to the backlash they are getting, as everything she touches normally turns to gold,” a source claimed. “She feels like she’s coming across as bossy. He can’t manage anything without her, so she is forced to be the ‘grown-up’. It’s caused friction.”
The couple, who share three young children, Rex, Rose, and Belle, along with Stacey’s two older sons and Joe’s son from a previous relationship, had insisted the show would be an honest look at real family life, not a glamorised version. But the reality of letting cameras into their home appears to be hitting harder than expected.

Despite the criticism, Stacey and Joe have not publicly addressed the backlash, but with the series continuing to air, fans will be watching closely to see how the couple navigate both public scrutiny and personal tension under the spotlight.
