Skunk Anansie’s Skin Reveals Terrifying Hotel Room Mugging Attempt

Skunk Anansie frontwoman Skin has revealed she was the victim of a terrifying attempted mugging in her hotel room while on tour, and warned fans to stay vigilant.

The legendary singer, real name Deborah Dyer, shared the shocking ordeal in a candid Facebook post, explaining how a man posing as room service knocked on her hotel room door at 6am and tried to enter.

Skin said the incident happened after she arrived at the hotel following an exhausting 18-hour journey on her tour bus. “Somebody tried to mug me in my room. They woke me up at 6am after an 18-hour tour bus journey. I was tired and they said it was room service,” she wrote.

But the Brixton-born singer’s instincts kicked in immediately: “The Brixton thing in me said ‘Ding ding’. There was no tray and I thought something was wrong. I cussed the guy and he said he would come back.”

Skin called hotel management and insisted they investigate. “They found the guy from my description. I did a Karen and said ‘I want to speak to the manager’. The hotel said they had to let him go as our stories did not match up,” she continued.

The man claimed he was “looking for his girlfriend,” but Skin wasn’t buying it. “It was dodgy,” she added. “In the end the manager tells me there is no case.”

The 56-year-old singer, known for her powerful voice and fierce attitude on stage, admitted she’s still shaken by the experience. “You know sometimes in your life when you have steam blowing,” she said. “I had to take myself away from this man and the situation. We made the hotel look at the cameras to get a picture of this man.”

Skin stressed how much worse things could have been had she let her guard down. “He was leaning up against my door. He could have pushed the door in with a knife or he could have had chloroform. Who knows what would have happened. But I am a fighter and that is going to get me in trouble.”

Finishing her post with a warning, she told fans: “I am still vexed even telling the story. Never open your door at weird times unless you know who is there.”

Fans and fellow musicians flooded her comments with messages of support, praising her bravery and instincts.
