Simon Cowell has surprised fans yet again, but this time, it wasn’t on a talent show stage. Instead, the music and television superstar was spotted mingling with traders and collectors at a Pokémon card trading show in London, where he reportedly dropped thousands on a single rare card for his collection.
The Britain’s Got Talent and X Factor creator stunned attendees at the annual London Trading Card event, held last month at Boxpark in Croydon. Cowell, whose career has made him one of the most recognisable figures in entertainment, happily posed for photos with fans as he browsed stalls and chatted to traders.
Looking relaxed and casual in a black T-shirt and his signature black aviator sunglasses, the 64-year-old mogul, who is estimated to have a net worth of over £300 million, spent time speaking with vendors and collectors at the bustling event.
One particularly lucky vendor shared his experience of meeting the star, describing Cowell as approachable and genuinely interested in the community.
“He seemed to be really enjoying the show and meeting the collectors and vendors,” the vendor told reporters.
“He was very friendly and kindly took time out to talk to people and take photos with everyone while he was there. Really nice guy.”
According to collector account Fanaticscollect, Cowell purchased one of the most desirable cards of the day, a Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art PSA 10. The highly sought-after Pokémon card can fetch anywhere between £650 and £2,000 depending on the market.

While some fans might be surprised to see the no-nonsense talent judge take an interest in Pokémon, others pointed out that collectibles and trading cards have become a hugely popular hobby among high-profile names in recent years, with stars from Logan Paul to Steve Aoki investing significant sums in rare pieces.
Attendees took to social media to share their delight at seeing Cowell in such an unexpected setting. One fan wrote on X: “Never thought I’d see Simon Cowell at a Pokémon event, but he seemed to be having the time of his life!” Another added: “Even Simon Cowell can’t resist catching ‘em all!”
This public outing shows a different side to Cowell, whose usual persona is of the stern, sharp-tongued judge who made global stars out of acts like One Direction, Leona Lewis and Susan Boyle. Away from the cameras, however, he has admitted to enjoying quieter hobbies and spending more time with his young son, Eric, who reportedly also enjoys collecting Pokémon cards.
Whether this signals a new passion or just a one-off curiosity, it’s clear Simon’s unexpected visit to the card show has won him some new fans in the Pokémon community. And judging by the smiles in the photos, the feeling seems to have been mutual.
