‘Sex Education’ Star Aimee Lou Wood Lands Role Pattie Boyd in Beatles Biopics

Aimee Lou Wood is about to step into one of rock history’s most iconic love stories.

The Sex Education and The White Lotus star has been cast as Pattie Boyd, the famed model, muse and first wife of George Harrison, in the upcoming Beatles biopic series that has fans and film buffs buzzing with excitement.

Boyd, a central figure in the Beatles’ inner circle during the height of their fame, inspired some of the most legendary love songs of the era, including Harrison’s “Something” and later Eric Clapton’s “Layla,” after she became romantically involved with the guitar legend following her split from Harrison.

Pattie married the Beatles guitarist George in 1966 when she was just 21 years old - but later left him for his close friend, singer Eric Clapton (Pattie and George in 1966)

The ambitious biopic project is being helmed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, who is creating four separate feature films, one for each of the Fab Four: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Each film will tell the story of the Beatles from a unique, personal perspective, offering an unprecedented deep dive into the band’s evolution, friendships, rivalries, and cultural impact.

Aimee Lou Wood’s casting adds even more excitement to the already high-profile project. Known for her emotionally nuanced performances and comic timing, she’s expected to bring both warmth and complexity to her portrayal of Boyd, a woman whose life intersected with some of music’s most seismic moments.

The Beatles films are being produced in collaboration with Apple Corps, and for the first time ever, the project has secured full life story and music rights from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison, ensuring the biopics will be as authentic and comprehensive as fans could hope for.

It was announced last week that Paul Mescal will be starring in the Sam Mendes movie as Paul McCartney, alongside Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph as George

Casting details for the Fab Four themselves are still tightly under wraps, but with names like Wood now attached, anticipation is mounting fast.

Aimee Lou Wood, who won a BAFTA for Best Female Performance in a Comedy for Sex Education, continues to prove her range with a string of critically acclaimed performances, and her transformation into Pattie Boyd, one of the most fascinating women of the 1960s rock scene, is sure to be a highlight of the eagerly awaited cinematic saga.

Production is expected to begin later this year, with the films slated for release in 2027.
