Scrubs Set for a Comeback With Original Cast Returning

It’s time to scrub in again, Scrubs is officially making its long-awaited return to television, with the original cast back where they belong.

ABC has announced that the much-loved hospital comedy has been greenlit for a brand-new series, reuniting Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke in their iconic roles as JD Dorian, Christopher Turk and Elliot Reid.

The revival comes more than a decade after the series wrapped up in 2010, following nine seasons that earned the show critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. Scrubs became a pop culture staple during its run, known for its perfect blend of heartfelt moments, surreal humour, and a genuinely moving portrayal of life in a teaching hospital.

Creator Bill Lawrence is back at the helm for the revival, alongside writers and producers Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, both veterans of the original series who will serve as showrunners.

Lawrence expressed his excitement at reuniting the team, saying:

“Scrubs means so very much to me. I’m so excited for the chance to get the band back together, and to work once again with Zach, Donald, Sarah, and everyone who made Sacred Heart Hospital feel like home. We can’t wait to bring more laughter and heart to the fans who stuck with us all these years.”

Details about the storyline remain under wraps, but insiders have hinted that the series will pick up years after the original finale, showing where life, and medicine, has taken the trio and their colleagues since we last saw them. Fans can likely expect a mix of nostalgia and fresh stories that reflect the passage of time while staying true to the spirit of the original.

The chemistry between Braff, Faison, and Chalke was a defining feature of the original series, and all three actors have publicly shared their enthusiasm for the project. Donald Faison took to Instagram shortly after the announcement with the caption: “Time to grab my scrubs again! Let’s go.”

Since Scrubs ended, the cast have stayed close, frequently appearing together on podcasts, panels, and social media, fuelling constant speculation about a revival over the years. For fans who have been clamouring for more, ABC’s announcement is a dream come true.

Production is due to begin later this year, with a premiere date expected sometime in 2026. And yes, the infamous janitor and other fan-favourite characters are rumoured to make appearances too.
