Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has publicly addressed online speculation surrounding her dance partner Stefan Dennis’s sudden exit from the competition, and she’s not holding back.
Earlier this week, the Neighbours legend was forced to withdraw from the hit BBC show after suffering a serious calf injury, cutting short what had been a promising journey for the duo. But while fans rushed to wish Stefan well, a handful of social media users began suggesting his early departure had been “planned,” citing Dianne’s pregnancy as the reason.
Now, Dianne has furiously shut down the rumours, calling them “disrespectful” and urging people to stop spreading false claims about her and Stefan’s time on the show.
Posting to her Instagram Stories, Dianne shared one of the messages that had been circulating online. The comment read:
“To be honest I saw this coming, Dianne couldn’t really continue especially when she gets bigger, bless her. She’s a brilliant dancer and she is one of my favourites sorry to say but I think this was planned to keep her and baby safe, just my thoughts.”
Clearly frustrated, Dianne hit back with a strongly worded response:
“I sound like a broken record but I’m seeing a bit of this floating around again! I know people say ignore it but actually, why should I? I will speak up. I would love nothing more than to keep dancing this week, next week, the week after that, and so on and so forth. In fact, I have more energy this year than I did this time last year!”
She continued:
“Please respect Stefan, who is extremely gutted to not be able to dance, and stop presuming this was a set up! Because believe me, we would if we could!”
Fans quickly rallied behind Dianne, praising her for speaking out and standing up for her partner. Many took to social media to show their support, calling her response “classy,” “honest,” and “exactly what needed to be said.”
One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Good for Dianne for shutting down the nonsense. Injuries happen, and Stefan looked devastated to leave. People need to stop inventing drama.”
Another added: “It’s wild that people think everything on Strictly is a conspiracy. Dianne and Stefan were brilliant together, it’s such a shame his injury forced them out.”
Stefan Dennis, best known for playing Paul Robinson in Neighbours, had recently made a strong comeback after missing a week due to illness. His partnership with Dianne had been a fan favourite, with many praising their chemistry and improving performances.
A BBC spokesperson confirmed the actor’s departure earlier this week, stating: “Stefan and Dianne have been such a joy to watch. We wish Stefan a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on his feet soon.”
This isn’t the first time Dianne has faced rumours or speculation about her time on Strictly, but the fiery Australian dancer has never been one to stay quiet in the face of unfair criticism. Her response this time has once again shown her trademark mix of honesty, strength, and compassion, qualities that have made her one of the most popular pros on the show.
