STRANGER THINGS STAR DAVID HARBOUR SAYS 'IT'S TIME' TO MOVE ON

David Harbour, who has portrayed the gruff but lovable police chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things since the beginning, says he’s glad the end is near.

Speaking to Interview Magazine, Harbour reflected on the show's upcoming fifth and final season: “When I started, I loved it so much. Buddies of mine who’d done TV shows for many years said, ‘By Season 3 or 4 you’ll be running.’ And I was like, ‘Never! I love all these guys so much.’ And then you get to a certain point where you’re like, ‘How much more story is there?’”

The actor admitted the long-running show has become repetitive, and he’s ready to try something new: “You’re having to play a lot of the same beat, and there’s a feeling where you’re like, ‘I want to take a risk. I want to do something that people haven’t seen me do before.’”

He also revealed he once thought his character might die in the very first season: “I was convinced Hopper would take his own life as part of a redemptive arc.”

Netflix has confirmed Stranger Things Season 5 will be released in three parts, with the first dropping on November 27 at 1am GMT.

While fans will be sad to say goodbye to Hawkins, Harbour’s honesty has given the farewell an added emotional weight.
