Sting has been forced to cancel a planned performance in Italy after “dangerous” weather conditions made it too risky to go ahead.
The 72-year-old star, who has been touring Europe with his Sting 3.0 tour, was scheduled to perform on Sunday night at Parco Ragazzi del ’99, a scenic park in Bassano del Grappa, in the northeast of Italy. However, heavy thunderstorms and a severe weather warning led to local authorities advising the show be postponed.
It comes just six months after Sting was forced to withdraw from a series of gigs due to illness, though he has since recovered and resumed his touring commitments.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, the Fields of Gold singer confirmed the cancellation and reassured fans he would return.
“The mayor of Bassano del Grappa wisely said it would have been too dangerous for the performance to take place with the possibility of lightning and extremely high winds last night,” Sting explained.
“The safety of my audience, band and crew is paramount. I promise we will return as soon as we can.”
The bad weather has continued to affect the area into Monday and Tuesday, with organisers citing persistent storm conditions as the reason for not rescheduling immediately.
Fans who had gathered in the city expressed disappointment, but many praised the decision to put safety first. One wrote: “Gutted to miss seeing you live, but we’d rather everyone be safe and sound. Please come back soon!”

The Bassano concert was part of Sting’s ongoing 3.0 Tour, which has seen him perform a stripped-back set with just two other musicians, focusing on reinterpreted versions of his hits from The Police and his solo catalogue.
So far, the tour has received glowing reviews for its intimate feel and Sting’s timeless vocals.
While no new date has yet been confirmed for the Bassano show, organisers have promised ticket holders will be updated as soon as possible.
For now, Sting fans will have to wait a little longer, but can take comfort knowing the singer remains as committed as ever to their safety and to putting on a memorable show when the time is right.
