What should have been a triumphant return for Sting to Liverpool turned into a moment of heartbreak and concern, after a member of The Christians collapsed on stage just hours before the singer’s headline set.
The dramatic scenes unfolded during The Christians’ afternoon performance at the On The Waterfront festival at Liverpool's Pier Head. The set came to an abrupt halt when one of the band members suddenly collapsed mid-song, prompting immediate panic.
According to eyewitnesses, frontman Garry Christian shouted for medics to rush on stage, as festival staff quickly moved to erect a privacy screen. The large crowd watched in stunned silence as emergency responders worked behind the scenes.
Later that evening, Sting opened his headlining set by acknowledging the disturbing incident and offering heartfelt support. The Grammy-winning icon shared that the band member had suffered a cardiac arrest but was still alive, though in a critical condition.
A spokesperson believed to be the band’s manager, Emma Bridget, also addressed the crowd earlier in the day:
“We’re really hoping he is going to make it. He didn’t have a pulse, he’s got one now, we think. Thank you so much.”
