Spencer Matthews, best known for his days on Made in Chelsea and more recently as a podcast host, is stepping into uncharted territory with a bold new television project. The 36-year-old father-of-three is fronting a one-off Channel 4 documentary designed to test whether he really is a psychopath.
The documentary promises to be one of the most extreme psychological experiments ever undertaken on British TV, combining cutting-edge science with Spencer’s own willingness to confront questions that friends, family, and even his wife have asked for years.
Facing the Label Head-On
Spencer admits he volunteered for the programme after loved ones suggested he displayed “psychopathic traits.” His decision was also fuelled by his own suspicions, as he has previously confessed that he sometimes wonders whether his lack of empathy for others places him on the psychopathy spectrum.
“I wouldn’t say I’m completely without feeling,” Spencer has said in interviews. “But I’ve often questioned whether the way I respond, or don’t respond, to situations is normal.”
His wife, television presenter Vogue Williams, once publicly admitted she initially thought he was a “sociopath” when the two met while filming Channel 4’s The Jump back in 2017. Their marriage and family life, however, paint a different picture, with the couple raising three young children together and regularly sharing glimpses of their family life on social media.

Exploring the Science
The documentary aims to dig into the science behind psychopathy, challenging viewers to rethink what the term really means. Far from being limited to serial killers and Hollywood villains, psychopathic traits can appear in everyday people, often helping them succeed in high-pressure environments like business or entertainment.
Spencer will work with leading psychologists and neuroscientists, undergoing rigorous assessments that will test his empathy, emotional responses, and ability to connect with others. The programme will also question whether there is such a thing as a “good psychopath, someone who channels traits like fearlessness, focus, and confidence in a positive way.
Challenging Perceptions
Channel 4 has teased that the documentary will not only put Spencer under the microscope but also examine wider cultural assumptions. Can someone with psychopathic tendencies still be a loving husband and father? Can these traits be strengths rather than flaws?
By putting his own reputation on the line, Spencer hopes to spark a national conversation about personality, empathy, and the many shades of human psychology.
Reaction and Anticipation
The announcement has already caused a stir online, with fans and critics alike curious to see how the outspoken reality star handles such a personal and scientific challenge. While some expect fireworks, others believe Spencer’s openness could shed light on a misunderstood condition.
One thing is certain: this will not be your average celebrity documentary. Whether the results confirm or disprove his suspicions, Spencer Matthews is set to reveal a side of himself the public has never seen before.
The documentary will air later this year on Channel 4, with an exact broadcast date to be confirmed.
