Sir Rod Stewart has announced the cancellation of six additional tour dates in the US after being hit hard by the flu, sparking concern about his much-anticipated performance at Glastonbury later this month.
The 79-year-old rock legend took to Instagram late Friday to break the bad news to his fans, revealing he is “devastated” to miss the shows and apologising sincerely. “So sorry my friends,” he wrote alongside a heartbroken emoji. “I’m devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon.”
The cancelled dates include four performances across major US cities and two high-profile shows at casinos in California, which are now set to be rescheduled. The sudden cancellations come amid reports that Stewart has been battling recurring health issues throughout his American tour, leading to concerns over his stamina ahead of his scheduled appearance at Glastonbury in just three weeks.
Stewart is currently slated to perform in the iconic "Legends" slot at Glastonbury, a prime billing that has previously been filled by the likes of Kylie Minogue, Diana Ross, and Paul McCartney. The festival runs from June 27 to June 29, and organisers have not yet commented on whether Rod’s health will affect his appearance.
Insiders close to the singer say he's determined to make the UK performance, which he reportedly views as a "homecoming moment." However, fans remain concerned given his fragile state.
Supporters have flooded social media with well wishes. “Your health comes first, Rod. We’ll be here when you’re ready!” wrote one fan. Another added, “We love you! Get well and smash Glasto!”
Sir Rod’s recent setlists have been filled with classic hits such as Maggie May, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy, and Sailing, as well as songs from his latest album Swing Fever, a jazz-inspired collaboration with Jools Holland.
For now, fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the rock icon will recover in time to take the Pyramid Stage by storm.
