SIMON COWELL RESPONDS TO VIRAL “WEIRD CLAPPING” CLIP

Simon Cowell has become an unlikely internet talking point this week after his clapping style went viral during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

The 64-year-old talent show mogul, best known for Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent, was welcomed onto Jennifer Hudson’s talk show with the programme’s famous “spirit tunnel” entrance.

As crew members lined the corridor, singing Cowell’s name to the tune of The Greatest Showman, the music executive happily clapped along while making his way to the stage. But it wasn’t his warm reception that caught the internet’s attention, it was the way he clapped.

The Spirit Tunnel Experience

During his sit-down with Jennifer, Cowell was asked if he enjoyed the theatrical entrance.
He replied enthusiastically:

“I absolutely loved that. When they told me about it, it is seriously the best way of coming onto a show. Seriously, do you mind if I steal it for AGT?”

Jennifer quipped back:

“Oh you know what, if you invite us to do it for you, we’ll be there!”

The light-hearted exchange made for fun television, but as soon as the clip was shared online, fans became fixated on Simon’s clapping.

Fans React to “Weird Clapping”

On X (formerly Twitter), the comments came thick and fast. Users joked about what they called “kangaroo arms” and questioned whether Cowell had ever clapped before.

Some of the standout reactions included:

“New clap style unlocked, what on earth was that?”

“Why them hands doing that after the clap? Lol, what is that?!”

“Is this his first time clapping? Why is he clapping like that?”

“He looks like an AI deepfake of himself.”

Others simply admitted they couldn’t stop rewatching the moment, calling it “unexplainably funny.”

Simon Takes It in Stride

Despite the online teasing, Cowell appears unfazed. Known for his no-nonsense approach on talent shows, he instead embraced the experience and praised the energy of the entrance.

A source close to the TV star said:

“Simon has a great sense of humour about things like this. He actually loved the entrance and thought it was one of the best ways he’s ever been brought out onto a show. The clapping comments just make him laugh.”

A Viral Moment

This isn’t the first time Simon Cowell has gone viral for something other than his judging. From his on-air putdowns to his ever-changing look, the TV personality is no stranger to internet memes.

While some fans had fun poking at his clapping style, others defended him, pointing out that Simon was clearly enjoying the playful moment. One viewer wrote: “Leave him alone, at least he was getting into it. Honestly, it was great to see Simon having fun.”

Whether awkward or endearing, one thing is certain: Simon Cowell has once again managed to steal the spotlight, this time without saying a word.
