Irish broadcasting favourite Ryan Tubridy, 52, has announced his engagement to long-term partner Dr Clare Kambamettu, revealing the proposal happened during a romantic getaway in the West of Ireland.
On his Virgin Radio UK show (also airing on Dublin’s Q102), Tubridy shared details of the intimate moment, saying it was "a very, very, very happy" occasion. The proposal took place in a hotel, surrounded by staff and unsuspecting strangers, with “gorgeous” weather and a stunning emerald-cut diamond ring from a Galway jeweller.
“It’s the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening,” Tubridy said, “and I just decided now is the time.”
The broadcaster, who met Clare after interviewing her in March 2023 on RTÉ, brought attention to the ring’s beautiful design and the emotional setting. He reflected on the moment by expressing how “the world feels lighter” and that he’s “a very lucky man.”
Clare Kambamettu, a former Rose of Tralee (2010) and now a practising clinical psychologist, has stood by Tubridy through turbulent times, including the RTÉ payments controversy, with Ryan calling her a rock during the ordeal.
The couple made their public debut at the 2024 Irish Post Awards and have built a quiet but strong partnership since then.
Fans across Ireland and beyond have flooded social media with congratulations, hailing it as "wonderful news" and praising Tubridy's heartfelt announcement.
With wedding planning on the horizon, Tubridy says his heart is full, and he’s ready for the next joyful chapter life has in store.
