Romesh Ranganathan Steps Back from Showbiz, But It’s Not for Good.

Beloved comedian and TV presenter Romesh Ranganathan has announced he's taking a step back from his packed entertainment schedule, but fans needn’t worry, he’s not quitting the spotlight entirely.

Speaking candidly on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Romesh revealed that he's decided to hit pause on his ever-growing list of TV shows, stand-up gigs, and podcast appearances to prioritise something even more important: family time.

“There’s no game plan,” he told host Lauren Laverne during the heartfelt interview. “I’m just doing whatever feels good, I’m taking a step back.”

Known for his dry wit, relatable humour and constant presence on British screens, from The Ranganation and Avoidance to his appearances on panel shows and comedy specials, Romesh has become one of the UK’s most recognisable faces in recent years. But even for someone as driven as him, the non-stop nature of the entertainment industry can take its toll.

The 46-year-old comedian explained that after years of juggling work commitments with family life, he now wants to spend more quality time at home. Romesh and his wife Leesa have three sons, and the decision to ease off professionally stems from a desire to be more present in their lives.

Despite the announcement, he was quick to clarify that this isn’t a retirement, just a breather.

“Fans don’t need to panic,” he assured. “I’m not packing it in for good.”

Romesh also reflected on his previous career as a teacher before making it big in comedy. “There’s not been a single day of my comedy career that’s even come close to the stress I felt as a teacher,” he admitted. “I cannot speak highly enough of teachers and teaching and how I loved that job.”

The surprise revelation has been met with understanding and support from fans online, many praising the comedian for choosing balance over burnout.

While Romesh might be taking a short break from the stage and screen, his honesty and humour continue to resonate, and it's clear he’ll be welcomed back with open arms whenever he’s ready to return.
