Robbie Williams Named FIFA’s Music Ambassador Ahead of World Cup Opener

Robbie Williams is swapping stadium tours for stadium anthems after being named the Official FIFA Music Ambassador, with his new track set to launch today at the opening of the World Cup in Miami.

The British superstar’s new anthem Desire will be played as teams walk onto the pitch at every FIFA match across the globe, the first time an official anthem will feature consistently throughout the entire tournament.

A Perfect Match: Music and Football

Williams, who’s been a fixture of British pop for nearly three decades, says the partnership is deeply personal.

“Music and football bring people together like nothing else,” he said. “Football and music have both been part of my life for as long as I can remember, so this means a lot to me on a personal level.”

Debut at the World Cup

The anthem Desire will make its debut today as part of the World Cup’s opening ceremony in Miami, where it will be broadcast live to millions.

The track is described as an “emotive and powerful stadium anthem” designed to energise fans and create a sense of unity at each match.

More to Come from Robbie x FIFA

This isn’t a one-off role. As FIFA’s new global music ambassador, Robbie will be involved in future musical initiatives, performances, and campaigns designed to blend football’s global stage with chart-topping soundtracks.

His previous World Cup appearance was at the 2018 opening ceremony in Russia, where he performed live in front of a global TV audience.

A New Era of Football Entertainment

FIFA is working hard to modernise the fan experience, and Robbie’s involvement signals a new approach to bringing music front and centre. It’s a role that suits his showman personality, and fans can expect more anthems, performances, and surprises in the months ahead.
