Rita Ora has revealed that her new music is her most personal yet, and is all about celebrating her sexuality and confidence.
The 33-year-old pop star, who married filmmaker Taika Waititi in 2022, opened up in a new interview about how her upcoming material reflects her journey to self-acceptance and empowerment. After years of speculation and scrutiny over her love life, Ora said she’s now at a place where she can “own” her identity and express it proudly through her art.
She said: “This music really feels like me. It’s the first time I’ve really put myself out there without fear, and that includes how I feel about my sexuality, my femininity, and my body.”
She added: “I wanted these songs to feel like a celebration of all the things that make me feel strong and sexy, not for anyone else, but for me. That’s what being confident really is.”
Rita, who first shot to fame in 2012 with her hit R.I.P., has often been in the headlines for her high-profile relationships and daring style choices. But she says she’s now more interested in focusing on herself and inspiring others to embrace who they are.
“I’ve always felt like I didn’t quite fit into a box, and I used to worry about that,” she said. “But now I realise that’s actually my power. I want my fans to feel that too, no matter who they are or who they love.”
Her upcoming album, her third studio record, will feature tracks she describes as “playful, sensual, and empowering,” with a sound that blends pop, R&B and dance influences.
Since marrying Waititi, Rita has said she feels more grounded than ever. “Taika gives me so much strength and support, he really encourages me to be my authentic self, and that’s why this music is so special to me.”
The singer also hinted that she hopes the songs will resonate particularly with her LGBTQ+ fans, saying: “So much of my fanbase is queer, and I love that. I want them to know I see them, and this is for them as much as it’s for me.”
Fans won’t have long to wait, her new single is due to drop later this summer, with the full album expected before the end of the year.
Reaction online has already been overwhelmingly positive, with one fan writing on X: “Rita Ora owning her sexuality in her music is the energy we all need in 2025!”
Another added: “We love a confident queen. Cannot wait to hear what she’s been working on.”
With this new era, Rita Ora seems ready to fully step into her power, and she’s inviting her listeners to do the same.
