After more than a decade as one of TNT Sports’ most recognisable football pundits, Rio Ferdinand has confirmed he is stepping away from the broadcaster, marking the end of an era in football coverage and the beginning of a new chapter for the Manchester United legend.
Ferdinand, who joined the network when it was still operating under the BT Sport banner, has become a familiar and respected face for Champions League and Premier League fans alike. But with a growing business empire and family commitments taking centre stage, the 45-year-old has chosen to call time on his long-standing role, at least for now.
In a statement released yesterday, Ferdinand said: “I have made the difficult decision to step away from TNT Sports after the Champions League final.” The announcement comes ahead of this season’s climactic showdown in Europe’s top club competition, which will now serve as his final broadcast with the channel.
According to sources close to the situation, the decision was entirely amicable, though it’s understood Ferdinand was the one driving the move. TNT insiders confirmed that a new contract had been offered months ago, but it remained unsigned, a sign that the former England defender had been weighing his options for some time.
And it’s not hard to see why. Off the pitch, Ferdinand has built an impressive and fast-growing portfolio of ventures. His management company, New Era Global, recently entered into a strategic partnership with WME, the Beverly Hills-based talent agency powerhouse. Combined with his 30 million followers across various social platforms and a high media profile, it’s clear that Rio’s post-football career is only gaining momentum.

Adding to the intrigue is the news that Rio and his wife Kate are planning a relocation to Dubai, a place with personal significance, as the couple first met there nine years ago. With their young family in tow, the move reflects Ferdinand’s growing desire for a lifestyle shift and more time away from the demands of live television.
Despite his departure, TNT bosses have reportedly left the door open for future collaborations. Ferdinand could still return for select fixtures or special events, particularly given his popularity and insider knowledge of the game.
For now, though, Rio Ferdinand is stepping off the punditry pitch to focus on family, business, and maybe a few sun-soaked moments on the Dubai coast. Football fans will surely miss his sharp insight and commanding presence on the panel, but it looks like he’s just getting started on a whole new journey.
