Ralph Ineson Wins Settlement After Suing Disney Over On-Set Injury

Ralph Ineson, best known for his role as the boisterous Finchy in the hit series 'The Office,' has reached an out-of-court settlement with Disney following a legal battle over an injury he suffered on set. The 55-year-old actor was seeking damages of up to £150,000 after slipping on gravel and injuring his shoulder while filming a fight scene with a 9ft ogre for the sequel series to the 1980s film 'Willow.'

The incident occurred in Bridgend, South Wales, where Ineson was performing a stunt as a knight. According to legal documents filed at London’s High Court, the injury left him with lasting damage that has impacted his ability to take on roles involving physical combat or horse-riding.

Ineson's claim against the Walt Disney Company Ltd alleged that the fake foam gravel used on set had not been properly raked, obscuring steps and creating a hazardous environment. As a result, Ineson lost his footing, fell, and landed awkwardly on his right arm. His lawyer, David White, stated that the actor “felt the immediate onset of pain” but chose to complete the scene before alerting anyone to his injury.

A source close to Ineson revealed that the actor is “happy the whole thing has been put to bed.” They added, “There is not much doubt he suffered a bad injury.” Although the exact amount of the settlement has not been disclosed, it is believed to be a substantial sum.

Ineson’s career spans decades, with notable appearances in films such as 'Harry Potter,' 'The Green Knight,' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' However, his injury has raised concerns about his ability to perform in physically demanding roles, which have been a significant part of his career.

The case has also brought attention to on-set safety standards, with legal experts noting that production companies have a duty of care to ensure that cast and crew are protected from avoidable risks. Disney has not issued any public comment on the settlement.

Fans of Ineson have expressed their support for the actor, who remains a beloved figure thanks to his unforgettable performance in 'The Office' as David Brent’s loud and often inappropriate mate, Finchy. As he recovers from his injury, Ineson is expected to continue his successful acting career, albeit with potential limitations on the physically demanding roles he once excelled in.
