ROSALÍA FACES €600,000 FINE AFTER SURPRISE ALBUM PROMO CAUSES CHAOS

Global music sensation Rosalía is facing a potential €600,000 fine after her surprise album promotion caused complete chaos in the heart of Madrid. The Catalan-born singer, known for her innovative fusion of flamenco, pop, and reggaeton, sparked mayhem on Monday night after announcing, without prior notice, that she was heading to Plaza del Callao for a “special surprise.”

The 31-year-old star took to TikTok Live to reveal her spontaneous plans just hours before the unveiling of her new LUX magazine front cover, which was displayed on a giant screen in the square. Thousands of fans quickly descended on the area, bringing traffic to a standstill and overwhelming local authorities.

Rosalía streamed the entire moment live to her millions of followers, showing her excitement as she made her way through the gridlocked streets. However, the situation quickly spiralled out of control, forcing her to abandon her car and sprint to a nearby hotel, where she eventually greeted ecstatic fans from a window above the crowd.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as fans flooded the streets, with police struggling to control the situation. “It was madness,” said one onlooker. “Cars couldn’t move; people were running everywhere just to catch a glimpse of her. It was like a pop concert without the stage.”

By Tuesday morning, Madrid city officials confirmed they were investigating the incident. Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz told reporters that no formal permission had been granted for the gathering and that Rosalía’s team could face serious penalties.

“It doesn’t appear there was a specific authorisation,” Sanz said. “If there wasn’t, action will be taken accordingly.”

Under Madrid’s municipal regulations, unauthorised large-scale events or street promotions can incur fines of up to €600,000, depending on the disruption caused and the potential safety risks involved.

While Rosalía’s impromptu gesture delighted fans, it’s now being viewed by authorities as a major public safety breach. Local media have since reported that city officials are also reviewing whether any sponsors or event partners were involved in planning the stunt.

The LUX magazine campaign was meant to be a carefully timed moment ahead of the singer’s much-anticipated new album, her first full-length project since 2022’s critically acclaimed Motomami. But what was intended as a surprise fan experience quickly turned into an unplanned public spectacle.

Rosalía, who has built a reputation for pushing creative boundaries, has not yet commented publicly on the fine or the investigation. However, fans have flooded social media in her defence, arguing that the city should celebrate, not punish, the spontaneous outpouring of excitement her appearance caused.

On TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), the hashtag #RosalíaEnMadrid trended overnight, with many fans sharing videos of her running through the streets and waving from the hotel window. One post read, “Only Rosalía could stop Madrid traffic with a smile and a TikTok Live.”

Despite the potential financial repercussions, the incident has only heightened anticipation for Rosalía’s new album, and reinforced her status as one of the most unpredictable and captivating artists in modern music.

As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: when Rosalía says she has a surprise, expect the unexpected, even if it costs €600,000.
