Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he will cut down on talking to the crowd during his highly anticipated Glastonbury Festival set, because he wants to pack in as much music as he can.
The 79-year-old music legend, known for his warm storytelling and cheeky banter during live shows, said fans should expect “less chat, more classics” when he takes to the Pyramid Stage this weekend.
“I usually like to talk to the audience and have a bit of fun between songs,” Sir Rod explained, “but this is Glastonbury, it’s such a massive moment. I want to fit in as many songs as possible.”
The rocker is expected to perform a career-spanning greatest hits set, featuring tracks like Maggie May, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?, Sailing, Baby Jane, and The First Cut Is the Deepest. Fans are hoping for a few surprises too, and given Stewart’s reputation for spontaneity, they just might get them.
This year marks Rod Stewart’s Glastonbury debut, a surprising fact given his decades-long career. The music icon previously said he had never been invited, but organisers reportedly made it a priority to secure him for this year’s festival, with his appearance headlining the Sunday legends slot.
With his distinctive raspy voice, dapper stage style, and undeniable showmanship, Rod has been a mainstay of the British music scene since the 1960s. Over the years, he’s sold more than 250 million records worldwide and earned countless accolades, including a knighthood in 2016 for services to music and charity.
Fans attending the festival, or tuning in from home, can expect a tight, energetic set brimming with nostalgic favourites and heartfelt performances.
“It’s all about the songs,” Rod added. “Glastonbury is a celebration, and I want everyone singing along from start to finish.”
With no long monologues or extended anecdotes, this Glasto set promises to be all killer, no filler, and a masterclass from one of music’s true greats.
