QUEEN: MUSIC FANS REVEAL WHO THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE COME BACK

As Oasis mania grips the nation following their long-awaited reunion, music fans have been asked to reveal which other artists and bands they’d most love to see make a comeback. The results show that Queen, fronted by the late Freddie Mercury, have been crowned the ultimate dream return, capturing 29% of the public vote.

The legendary rock band, famous for hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, and We Will Rock You, were voted ahead of some of the biggest names in music history. Hot on their heels were The Beatles, who took 28% of the vote, proving that decades after their split, the Fab Four’s legacy still resonates powerfully with audiences across generations.

Other iconic names on the list included Elvis Presley with 23%, Whitney Houston with 20%, Fleetwood Mac with 19%, and R.E.M with 13%. Female pop power also featured strongly, with the Spice Girls attracting 13% of the vote, Girls Aloud with 10%, and the legendary Aretha Franklin at 9%. It’s clear that both classic rock and unforgettable pop anthems continue to hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers.

The survey, conducted by Marella Cruises (TUI’s UK ocean cruise line), also revealed just how deeply live music connects with fans. A staggering 90% agreed that experiencing music live is one of life’s greatest joys. From the buzz of the crowd to the atmosphere of a packed venue, live performances remain a highlight for British audiences. Three-quarters of respondents (73%) said they love the atmosphere at gigs, while two-thirds (66%) highlighted the lasting experience of being at a live show.

Interestingly, more than half (59%) admitted they enjoy live music most when attending with their partner, while 53% prefer heading to concerts with their friends. Clearly, the social side of music is just as important as the performance itself.

When it comes to decades, the survey crowned the 1990s as the golden era of music, with 45% of Brits calling it the best decade for tunes. The 1980s followed closely with 40%, the 2000s at 30%, and the 1970s at 20%. With Britpop, grunge, dance music, and girl power all dominating the charts, it’s no surprise the 90s are remembered so fondly.

The report also showed that Brits use music to soundtrack their holidays, with 92% saying it helps get them in the mood. Nostalgic 90s hits topped the holiday playlist for 49% of respondents, while 36% turn to classic anthems, 23% opt for 2000s hits, and 21% favour chilled lounge music.

Despite the convenience of digital streaming, nearly half of those polled (48%) agreed that listening through speakers or phones simply can’t compare to the experience of live music. That’s why Brits are planning to attend an average of three live gigs or festivals this year, showing that the appetite for live performance is stronger than ever.

Queen may not be able to reunite in their original form, but their continued popularity proves that their music remains timeless. And with Oasis back on the road, fans are left dreaming of what other legendary comebacks might still be possible.
