Prince William: Saving the Planet Is a “Team Game”

Prince William has called for global unity and teamwork in tackling the climate crisis, insisting that saving the planet is “a team game”.

Speaking passionately at a Climate Week gathering at Bloomberg’s London HQ, the Prince of Wales highlighted the importance of cooperation across nations, industries, and communities as he promoted his ambitious Earthshot Prize initiative.

Launched in 2020, the Earthshot Prize is a decade-long environmental program awarding £1 million annually to five global winners whose work offers scalable solutions to the planet’s most pressing problems. Now in its fourth year, the project has drawn international acclaim for spotlighting innovative efforts across areas such as clean air, ocean revival, and waste elimination.

Prince William told the audience:

“Everything we want to do here starts with a team game. And the prize is just the pinnacle of the ability to showcase all the brilliant people around working in this space.”

He went on to connect environmental action with values we all understand:

“It takes a village to raise a family. If you take that into the concept of a planet, it takes all of us to raise that planet.”

The future king’s message struck a hopeful note, urging individuals, companies, and governments to come together to safeguard “all the things we as human beings care about”.

This year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this November, highlighting not just international engagement, but the increasingly global nature of the solutions being celebrated.

Since its inception, the Earthshot Prize has invested millions into pioneering technologies, grassroots movements, and environmental startups, many of which have gone on to partner with governments and major institutions to scale their work.

Prince William’s Climate Week appearance also served as a reminder that the royal family continues to evolve its role, using its platform to influence conversations on urgent global matters.

With COP summits, net-zero goals, and global warming dominating headlines, his comments reinforce the sense that no action is too small, and no team is too big to join in the fight for the planet’s future.
