The UK’s podcasting elite gathered in South London for the British Podcast Awards, with a night full of laughter, politics, and true crime taking centre stage.
Comedy duo Elis James and John Robins celebrated a big win, taking home the award for Best Comedy Podcast. Known for their quick wit, self-deprecating humour and cult following, Elis and John have become staples of the podcasting world, and their victory was warmly received by fans and industry peers alike.
Meanwhile, Ed Gamble continued his hot streak with the official Traitors companion podcast, The Traitors: Uncloaked, which scooped up not one, but two awards: Best Entertainment Podcast and the prestigious Spotlight Award. With Celebrity Traitors launching next week, the win has cemented Ed’s role as one of podcasting’s biggest names.
Politics meets comedy
On the political front, Pod Save the UK, hosted by comedian Nish Kumar and journalist Coco Khan, secured the Podcast Champion award. The judges praised the show for blending political insight with biting humour, helping listeners engage with serious issues through an accessible, entertaining lens.
Nish, already known for his sharp stand-up, thanked fans for “tuning in to the chaos every week,” while Coco reflected on the importance of mixing laughter with real-world issues.
True crime claims top prize
The industry’s most coveted award, Podcast of the Year, went to the hard-hitting investigative series Kill List. The gripping true crime podcast, which delves into the shadowy world of contract killers, also won Best True Crime Podcast. Judges commended the show for its “forensic reporting and gripping storytelling” that made headlines nationwide.
Other winners on the night
It was also a strong night for celebrity-led podcasts. Former Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and chef Angela Hartnett were named Best Hosts for their food-and-chat series Dish, praised for its irresistible mix of warmth and candid conversation.
Miquita Oliver and Lily Allen’s hit show Miss Me? made history by becoming the first-ever winner of the Video Innovation Award. The victory came just as Lily Allen announced she would be taking a break from podcasting, making the win particularly poignant.
