PERRIE EDWARDS JOINS BBC’S GIRLBANDS FOREVER DOCUMENTARY

Fans of Little Mix are in for a treat , Perrie Edwards is set to appear in the upcoming BBC documentary Girlbands Forever.

The surprise casting has delighted fans, as many expected that Little Mix might follow the lead of other iconic girl groups such as Spice Girls and Girls Aloud, who both declined to take part.

The documentary will act as a spiritual follow-up to Boybands Forever, which aired last year and explored the highs and lows of the boyband era. That programme received mixed reviews for its warts-and-all portrayal, which may explain why some of the biggest girl groups chose to sit this one out.

However, Perrie’s involvement signals that she is ready to look back at Little Mix’s journey, from their historic win on The X Factor to becoming one of the best-selling girl bands of all time.

Producer Louis Theroux explained the show’s tone, saying:

“Going back and rediscovering all that music and those videos and the interviews they did has been an absolute pleasure. There was pain behind the music, too, and as is so often the case there was a price to be paid for that level of young fame. But mainly we wanted this to be a celebration of a time of very special music and talent.”

The documentary will also feature contributions from some of the biggest names in girlband history, including Heidi Range of Sugababes, Kéllé Bryan from Eternal, and Kerry Katona from Atomic Kitten. All Saints’ Melanie Blatt, Su-Elise Nash of Mis-Teeq, and Tulisa Contostavlos of N-Dubz will also lend their voices to the programme.

Music icons Pete Tong, Pete Waterman, and Scott Mills will appear as industry commentators, offering insight into how girlbands shaped pop culture, fashion, and female empowerment across multiple decades.

For Perrie, this is a chance to reflect on Little Mix’s incredible legacy while she continues to work on her solo music career. The star has been teasing her first solo album for months, with fans eagerly awaiting her next move.

Girlbands Forever is expected to explore the evolution of girl groups from the early days of Bananarama and The Bangles to the era of Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, and Little Mix. It will also examine the personal struggles faced by many members, including the pressures of fame, mental health battles, and the sometimes toxic demands of the music industry.

The BBC has yet to confirm an air date, but insiders say the documentary will arrive later this autumn, making it perfect cosy-night-in viewing for nostalgic pop lovers.
