Oasis: Their Most-Played Song of the Last 25 Years Finally Revealed

It’s official, Don’t Look Back In Anger has been crowned Oasis’ most played song of the past quarter-century.

According to new data from Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), who track music played on radio and TV across the UK, the 1996 anthem has been aired more than any other Oasis track in the last 25 years.

The track, from the Manchester band’s era-defining album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, comfortably beat fan favourites Wonderwall, She’s Electric, Roll With It, and Little By Little, which completed the top five.

Since 2000, Oasis’ music has been broadcast an incredible 120 times per day, on average, across radio and television in the UK, proof that the Gallagher brothers’ legacy remains as strong as ever.

In a statement, PPL noted that Oasis’ music “has stood the test of time and continues to resonate across generations, cementing their place as one of Britain’s greatest-ever bands.”

The timing of the news couldn’t be better for fans, as Liam and Noel Gallagher’s long-anticipated reunion tour kicks off again this Friday with the first of five shows at Manchester’s iconic Heaton Park. Tickets sold out within minutes when they went on sale earlier this year, showing there’s no shortage of love for the Britpop legends.

Don’t Look Back In Anger was the band’s second UK number one single when it was released in 1996 and has since become a staple singalong at gigs, festivals and even football stadiums. It gained fresh significance in 2017, when crowds in Manchester sang it in tribute following the city’s arena attack.

Speaking about the results, a PPL spokesperson said: “The endurance of Oasis’ songs on the airwaves proves just how deeply their music is woven into the cultural fabric of the UK. Don’t Look Back In Anger continues to strike a chord nearly three decades later.”
