The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards made history last night when 15-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest male winner ever, taking home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Adolescence.
The breakout star, best known for his gripping portrayal of a troubled teen navigating life’s harsh realities in the hit series, tearfully hugged his parents and co-stars before walking to the stage to accept the golden trophy. The award was presented by actress Sydney Sweeney, who looked thrilled to hand the historic win to the young actor.
"This means everything to me," Owen said during his emotional acceptance speech. "To the cast, the crew, and my family, thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. This is for every kid who thinks they’re too young to dream this big."
Owen’s win breaks a nearly 30-year-old record previously held by Michael A. Goorjian, who was 23 when he won for David’s Mother in 1994. The Emmy voters clearly recognized Owen’s talent and the depth he brought to the character, despite his young age.

The night was a huge success for Adolescence, which also won Best Limited or Anthology Series and earned Stephen Graham the award for Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Erin Doherty Best Supporting Actress. The series was praised by critics for its raw, honest storytelling and strong performances across the board.
Other big winners of the evening included The Pitt, which took home Best Drama Series, and The Studio, which won Best Comedy Series. Seth Rogen was named Best Actor in a Comedy Series, while Jean Smart continued her awards streak with another win for Hacks.
And while the awards were the highlight, the buzz around the luxurious gift bag had everyone talking too. This year’s swag included a $3,900 Alma hair restoration treatment, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Whisky, Miage Skincare, and even a Hasbro game pack.
But Owen Cooper’s victory stole the show, and social media. Within minutes of his win, fans and celebrities alike flooded X and Instagram with messages of congratulations, hailing the young star as “the future of television.”
With such a strong debut, Owen Cooper’s career seems poised for greatness. His Emmy win will no doubt open doors to more projects, but for now, he says he just wants to “finish school and enjoy this moment.”
