OASIS: MEG MATHEWS SPEAKS OUT AFTER REUNION GIG WALKOUT CLAIMS

Meg Mathews has furiously dismissed claims she “walked out” of Oasis’ historic reunion gig in Cardiff just before the band played Wonderwall, the iconic track Noel Gallagher once said was written about her.

The 58-year-old former wife of Noel was in the crowd at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday night, alongside their daughter Anaïs, to witness the Gallagher brothers share a stage for the first time in 15 years. But eagle-eyed fans and some tabloid reports claimed Meg was seen leaving early, just moments before the encore, which included Wonderwall.

Noel and Meg were married from 1997 to 2001, and at the height of their relationship he reportedly wrote the now-legendary ballad about her. So when she appeared to exit before the song was played, some speculated it was a pointed gesture.

Meg, however, has wasted no time in hitting back at the claims, posting a fiery response on her Instagram Stories over the weekend.

“I left before the encore to get to my car,” she wrote. “I have left hundreds of stadiums at the end in my life and it’s been carnage. And yes, I heard Wonderwall loud and clear outside, thank you. I was not being rude or bored.”

She continued: “That phrasing ‘walked out just moments before “her song” was played’, come on. Made it sound like I stormed off or something. I didn’t. I just didn’t fancy getting stuck in the madness of 70,000 people all leaving at the same time.”

The much-hyped Oasis reunion gig has been one of the most talked-about events of the year, with tickets selling out within minutes and fans travelling from around the world to witness Noel and Liam bury the hatchet onstage.

Meg and Noel’s daughter Anaïs has spoken warmly in the past about her parents’ friendship post-divorce, and Meg’s presence at the show was seen by many as a symbolic moment.
