Netflix has officially unveiled the cast for its highly anticipated limited series adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, with a fresh take on Jane Austen’s timeless novel set to hit screens as a six-part event.
Leading the cast is The Crown star Emma Corrin, who will take on the iconic role of Elizabeth Bennet. Known for their Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Princess Diana, Corrin now steps into one of literature’s most beloved characters, bringing a new energy to Austen’s witty and fiercely independent heroine.
Joining Corrin is Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden, who will don the waistcoat and brooding charm of the famously aloof Mr. Darcy. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Darcy is central to Austen’s story, and this new pairing has already sparked excitement among fans of both period drama and romantic storytelling.
Adding even more star power to the ensemble is Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, who will play the excitable and socially ambitious Mrs. Bennet. Known for her impeccable comic timing and emotional range, Colman is expected to bring a memorable spin to the classic matriarchal figure.
The series is being written by Dolly Alderton, best known for her work as a journalist, author, and creator of the BBC’s Everything I Know About Love. This marks Alderton’s first time adapting a major period piece, and she’s expressed her excitement at reimagining Austen’s world.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton said. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy, it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
Corrin echoed the sentiment, calling the opportunity a dream come true: “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
The series will be directed by Euros Lyn, known for his work on Heartstopper, Doctor Who, and Broadchurch. Lyn will also serve as executive producer alongside Corrin, further cementing the creative vision behind the project.
Filming is set to begin later this year in the UK, with a release date to be announced in due course. With a stellar cast, a beloved source material, and a fresh creative team, this new Pride & Prejudice promises to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about dramas in the year ahead.
