Neil Young's Glastonbury Set Won’t Be Televised, BBC Confirms

Neil Young is returning to British soil for a historic performance at Glastonbury 2025, but fans hoping to watch from their sofas may be out of luck.

The 78-year-old rock icon is set to headline the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night with his longtime band, The Chrome Hearts, joining fellow top-liners The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo at this year’s festival. However, in a surprising twist, the BBC has announced that Neil Young’s set will not be part of their live coverage.

The corporation, which traditionally provides extensive access to the iconic Worthy Farm festival, has released its 2025 broadcast plan. Viewers will enjoy over 90 hours of content via BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, and across TV and radio, with coverage of major performances from five key stages: Pyramid, Other, West Holts, Woodsies, and The Park.

However, when scanning through Saturday’s programming details, Neil Young’s name is noticeably absent.

This omission has led to disappointment among fans, particularly long-time followers of the Canadian-American music legend, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a solo artist and once as a member of Buffalo Springfield.

“It’s such a shame. He’s one of the greatest living performers, and yet we’re being left out,” one fan wrote on social media.
Another added: “Neil Young at Glasto is huge news. Why on earth wouldn’t they show it?”

While there has been no official comment from Neil Young himself, it’s worth noting that the singer has previously expressed strong views about digital platforms and streaming rights. In 2022, he famously removed his music from Spotify over concerns related to misinformation. It’s possible that broadcasting rights or philosophical differences with the BBC could be behind the decision.

Whatever the reason, this development serves as a reminder of the magic of live performance, and for those not lucky enough to be attending Glastonbury in person this year, the chance to witness Neil Young’s return to the Pyramid Stage may have to live on in memory alone.

Neil Young’s set at Glastonbury 2025 takes place on Saturday, June 28.
