The glitziest night in British television is fast approaching, and the 2024 National Television Awards are already setting the stage for some seriously dramatic showdowns.
Joel Dommett is returning to host the NTAs for the fifth consecutive year, with the star-studded ceremony taking place at London’s O2 Arena on September 10, and this year’s nominations are causing quite the stir.
One of the biggest shake-ups comes in the Reality Competition category, which has been revamped to pit celebrity spin-offs against their original civilian counterparts, meaning fans will now face the impossible task of choosing between shows that are often part of the same franchise.
Yes, you read that right, Celebrity Big Brother is going head-to-head with Big Brother, Race Across The World will be squaring off against Celebrity Race Across The World, and Love Island fans must choose between the main series and its all-star spin-off, Love Island: All Stars.
Over in the jungle, I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! could be facing defeat for the first time in years, thanks to breakout BBC hit The Traitors, which continues to win over both critics and audiences alike.
But in the TV Presenter category, it’s business as usual, at least for now, as Ant & Dec look set to extend their unbelievable winning streak to 24 consecutive years.
However, the Geordie duo face their toughest competition yet, with a stacked list of nominees including:
Claudia Winkleman – hot off the back of The Traitors’ success
Alison Hammond – always a fan favourite
Maya Jama, Davina McCall, Jeremy Clarkson, and Holly Willoughby all also in the running.
Meanwhile, Netflix smash-hit Adolescence is proving unstoppable, with four major nominations including New Drama, and acting nods for Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and breakout talent Owen Cooper. The gritty series made global waves earlier this year after racking up an astonishing 96.7 million views in just three weeks.
And there’s a possible farewell win on the cards too, the beloved Gavin & Stacey finale is up for Best Comedy, with fans rallying behind it for one last hurrah.
With big names, big rivalries, and some truly unpredictable face-offs, this year’s NTAs are shaping up to be one of the most thrilling yet.
