Your favourite American TV comedies and dramas might soon be getting a futuristic makeover. NBCUniversal has announced a groundbreaking partnership with generative entertainment company Wolf Games to create video games based on some of the network’s biggest television franchises, powered by artificial intelligence.
The media giant, which owns one of the largest entertainment libraries in the world, confirmed that the deal will allow Wolf Games to develop AI-driven interactive experiences inspired by NBCUniversal classics including The Office, Saturday Night Live, Law & Order, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Heroes, Community, Will & Grace, and even Sex and the City.
According to the companies, the collaboration aims to “reimagine storytelling” by turning well-known series into immersive narrative games that adapt to the player’s choices. In other words, fans could soon find themselves not just watching their favourite sitcoms or dramas, but living them.
Under the multi-year agreement, Wolf Games will serve as a “true creative partner” for NBCUniversal, developing a slate of interactive experiences that make use of generative AI to build worlds, characters, and dialogue in real time. The goal is to combine NBC’s rich catalogue of storytelling with cutting-edge technology to create something entirely new.
Wolf Games described the partnership as “a new era of entertainment,” saying their AI system is designed to maintain “character integrity, story logic, and narrative depth,” ensuring that players experience authentic interactions that feel true to the original shows.
The company’s first project under the deal won’t be based on an existing series, but rather an original title, Public Eye, a murder mystery narrative game powered by generative AI, set to launch later this year. The game will reportedly showcase Wolf Games’ storytelling technology and serve as a glimpse into how AI might revolutionize fan engagement with beloved entertainment franchises.
Industry insiders say this could mark a turning point in how audiences experience popular television series. Instead of traditional adaptations or static spin-off games, these AI-powered experiences would allow players to step into dynamic storylines that respond to their actions. Imagine creating your own episode of The Office as the newest Dunder Mifflin employee, improvising sketches alongside Saturday Night Live cast members, or navigating the social scene of Sex and the City, all with dialogue and plot twists generated uniquely for each player.
NBCUniversal’s deal comes as major studios explore new ways to monetize and modernize their intellectual property. With the rise of generative AI, companies are looking to create interactive entertainment that bridges the gap between gaming, film, and TV, blurring the lines between viewer and participant.
Critics, however, have raised questions about how AI-generated content might affect writers, actors, and creative rights. The technology has sparked debate across Hollywood, especially following last year’s SAG-AFTRA strikes, where the use of AI in storytelling was a major point of contention.
Still, NBCUniversal insists the new venture will celebrate, not replace, human creativity, using AI as a tool to expand storytelling possibilities.
As Wolf Games prepares to launch Public Eye, anticipation is already growing about which NBC titles could be next. Could we see a Brooklyn Nine-Nine police mystery, a community-style campus adventure, or a Ted Lasso football management sim infused with heartfelt humour?
Whatever comes next, one thing is certain, the future of entertainment looks more interactive than ever.
