Miley Cyrus has finally addressed the long-running speculation that her hit song Flowers included a not-so-subtle dig at actress Jennifer Lawrence, clearing the air once and for all.
The rumours, which first surfaced in early 2023 following the release of the Flowers music video, centred around a glittering gold gown Miley wore in one of the video’s standout scenes. Fans were quick to point out that the dress bore a striking resemblance to a metallic gown worn by Jennifer Lawrence on the red carpet in 2012, sparking theories that the choice was intentional and linked to Miley’s ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Lawrence, who co-starred with Hemsworth in The Hunger Games franchise, has long been the subject of fan speculation regarding her relationship with the actor, especially after she admitted during a 2015 interview that the pair had shared an off-screen kiss.
With the lyrics of Flowers widely interpreted as an empowering breakup anthem, and its visuals packed with symbolism, many fans assumed the gold dress was a deliberate nod to J-Law, and possibly a subtle swipe.

Now, months after the video’s release, Miley has shut down the gossip with a cool and collected response. During a fan Q&A, one follower asked: “Miley, was your Flowers dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?”
Miley replied simply: “No, but I love that dress of hers.”
The understated comment puts an end to the rumour mill, showing there’s no bad blood between the two women, at least not from Miley’s side. Her response was classic Cyrus: poised, gracious, and not interested in fuelling drama.
While Miley has remained tight-lipped about many of the deeper meanings in Flowers, her latest statement reinforces what she’s repeatedly suggested in interviews, that the song is about self-love, independence, and moving on, rather than taking aim at anyone from her past.
Flowers went on to become one of Miley’s biggest hits to date, topping charts around the world and earning praise for its empowering message. The video, fashion choices included, became instantly iconic, but as it turns out, the resemblance to Jennifer’s dress was purely coincidental.
So for fans hoping for a Hollywood feud between two A-listers, Miley’s made it clear: she’s not interested in the drama, just the dress.
