A piece of Formula 1 history just changed hands, and it came with a multi-million-pound price tag. The legendary Ferrari F2001 driven by Michael Schumacher during his dominant 2001 Monaco Grand Prix victory has sold at auction for an astonishing £13.4 million.
The sale took place in Monaco, the very city where Schumacher drove the car to victory, and the price makes it the most expensive Schumacher-driven car ever sold at auction. Previously, the record was held by his 2003 season Ferrari, which fetched £9.75 million.
The iconic F2001, chassis number 211, is widely regarded as one of Schumacher’s "crown jewels", a machine that symbolised his peak performance during his time with Ferrari. Powered by a screaming V10 engine, the car is capable of reaching speeds up to 233mph, and it played a pivotal role in Schumacher’s run toward his fourth world championship title.

The auction not only broke records for Schumacher memorabilia, but it also made the F2001 the fourth most expensive Formula 1 car ever sold. That list is topped by a rare Mercedes ‘streamliner’ once driven by racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, which fetched a staggering £42.75 million earlier this year.
Schumacher’s Monaco win in 2001 is remembered as a masterclass in precision driving, a race that further solidified his status as one of the greatest talents in motorsport history. The F2001 wasn’t just a car, it was a weapon, and in Schumacher’s hands, it became unstoppable.
Since his tragic skiing accident in 2013, Schumacher’s legacy has taken on even greater significance for fans and collectors alike. The sale of this car is not just about owning a vehicle; it’s about owning a chapter of sporting greatness.
