Mel B is giving her Spice Girls bandmates another chance to celebrate her marriage, as she plans a second wedding abroad with husband Rory McPhee later this summer.
The 49-year-old singer, affectionately known as Scary Spice, tied the knot with hair stylist Rory at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on Saturday in a stunning star-studded ceremony. But fans were quick to notice that only one of her former bandmates, Emma Bunton, was able to attend the big day.
Mel C and Victoria Beckham sent their love and congratulations from afar after being unable to attend, while Geri Halliwell has so far not publicly acknowledged the wedding at all, sparking speculation of a rift.
Speaking to The Sun, Mel B revealed her plans for a second celebration, saying: “We’re going to have another wedding later this summer, something more informal and sexy. This one was beautiful and classic, but the next one will be more relaxed, and I’ve already bought my dress!”
She explained she couldn’t resist buying two gowns while planning the London ceremony. “In one incredible afternoon I found two perfect dresses. One beautiful, classic dress by Josephine Scott, a British designer, and one stunning, dramatic dress by US designer Justin Alexander. They’re both so different but so perfect.”
Mel and Rory’s London wedding was attended by a host of famous faces, including Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and singer Alexandra Burke. Mel walked down the aisle at the iconic cathedral, which was decked out with white roses and candles, in what guests described as an emotional and elegant affair.
Friends close to the singer say she wanted her second wedding to offer a more intimate and party-like atmosphere, giving her absent bandmates another opportunity to join the festivities.
