Matty Healy Spotted Singing Along at Oasis’ Heaton Park Gig

Matty Healy surprised fans on Friday night (July 11) after being spotted at Oasis’ triumphant homecoming gig at Heaton Park, just over a year after publicly telling the Gallagher brothers to “grow up” and reunite.

The 1975 frontman was seen enjoying himself among the massive Manchester crowd as the Britpop icons performed their first hometown show since 2009. The gig was the first of five huge shows at the historic North Manchester park, which has hosted some of the city’s most iconic live moments.

Footage and photos from the crowd showed Healy smiling, clapping, and even singing along to classics like Don’t Look Back In Anger, just months after his comments about Liam and Noel sparked headlines.

Back in 2023, when speculation of an Oasis reunion reached fever pitch, Healy waded in with his trademark cheek and told the brothers to stop their long-running feud. “They need to grow up,” he told a magazine interviewer at the time. “I can deal with them dressing like they’re in their 20s and being in their 50s, but not acting like they’re in their 20s. Grow up! Headline Glastonbury! Have a good time! Have a laugh!”

The comments drew a sharp response from Noel Gallagher, who fired back by branding The 1975 “fing s*”*, a remark that didn’t go unnoticed by Healy’s fans.

Still, there was no sign of any hard feelings on Friday night, as the Cheshire-born singer appeared happy to soak up the atmosphere and support his fellow Mancunians’ long-awaited return to the stage. Fans who recognised him in the crowd said he was gracious when approached, posing for selfies and happily chatting about the show.

One gig-goer posted on X “Didn’t expect to see Matty Healy bopping along to Oasis tonight after all that drama last year, but fair play, respect where it’s due!” Another quipped: “Matty Healy watching the Gallagher brothers act like they’re still in their 20s while singing every word. Iconic.”

The Oasis shows in Heaton Park mark an emotional return for the band, who last played Manchester in 2009 before their infamous split later that year. Tickets sold out in minutes, proving just how strong the appetite still is for the legendary group’s music.

Whether Healy’s appearance signals a thawing of his playful feud with Noel remains to be seen, but fans online were quick to praise him for showing up and paying homage to Manchester’s musical heritage.

As one fan summed up on Instagram: “Matty’s right, they did grow up and headline. And he was there to see it. Full circle moment.”
