MasterChef is about to get a fresh new flavour as acclaimed food critic and broadcaster Grace Dent is reportedly stepping into Gregg Wallace’s shoes as co-host alongside John Torode.
The much-loved BBC cooking competition, which has been a staple of British television for nearly two decades, has faced a storm of controversy in recent weeks following Gregg Wallace’s sudden departure.
According to industry insiders, Grace, who is already familiar to viewers as a Celebrity MasterChef judge, will officially replace Gregg when filming of the next series begins at the end of summer.
The news comes just days after Wallace, 59, posted a cryptic message suggesting he would “not go quietly” following his sacking by the show’s production company, Banijay. Wallace has strongly denied allegations of misconduct, which reportedly prompted his exit, as over 50 people allegedly came forward with complaints.
A source close to the show told The Sun:
“Grace is a natural fit for MasterChef. She stepped in seamlessly on Celebrity MasterChef and the response from viewers was overwhelmingly positive. She loves the format, she loves championing new talent in food, and she brings a sharp wit and warmth to the judging table.”
Grace, 51, is already a familiar face to fans of the show. Earlier this year she replaced Wallace on several episodes of Celebrity MasterChef, earning praise for her fair but forthright feedback and her clear passion for food.
Known for her work as a restaurant critic and for appearances on The Guardian, Have I Got News For You, and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Grace brings a unique perspective and credibility to the role, and plenty of dry humour.
Gregg Wallace’s exit has undoubtedly left a sour taste for some fans, as he has been a mainstay of the show since it was rebooted in 2005, known for his enthusiastic reactions and memorable catchphrases. His departure under such controversial circumstances, however, appears to have forced the BBC’s hand in bringing new energy to the franchise.

The insider added:
“The BBC know they’ve got to get this right, MasterChef is one of their flagship brands, and Grace is a trusted, respected figure in food broadcasting. There’s real excitement behind the scenes.”
For now, neither Grace nor the BBC has officially confirmed the appointment, but fans can expect an announcement closer to the start of filming later this year.
MasterChef continues to draw millions of viewers each season, as amateur chefs battle it out in the kitchen under the watchful eyes of the judges, and if Grace Dent does indeed step up to the plate permanently, it could mark the start of a bold new chapter for the beloved show.
