‘MAVERICK TAKES OFF AGAIN!’: Tom Cruise Confirms Top Gun 3 Is In The Works

Tom Cruise has sent Top Gun fans into a tailspin by confirming that Top Gun 3 is officially on the radar!

The Hollywood megastar, 61, who first donned the aviators as hotshot Navy pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in 1986, has revealed that he is “working” on the next high-octane instalment in the beloved action franchise.

Cruise dropped the bombshell during a recent interview on Australia’s Today, while promoting the upcoming finale of his Mission: Impossible series. The final chapter, titled Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, is set to hit UK cinemas on May 21, but it seems the end of Ethan Hunt’s story may signal a new beginning for Maverick.

“Yeah, we’re thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what’s possible,” Cruise told the morning show. “It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.”

While Cruise was coy on the plot specifics, his words were enough to send fans of the franchise into overdrive. Social media exploded within hours of the interview, with many demanding the return of fan favourites such as Miles Teller’s ‘Rooster’ and Glen Powell’s breakout character ‘Hangman’, both introduced in the smash-hit sequel.

Released in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick soared to box office glory, raking in nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and earning a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. It was hailed as the perfect blend of 1980s nostalgia and modern action, re-establishing Cruise as one of Hollywood’s last true movie stars.

The actor’s deep connection to his characters has always been evident, and Top Gun 3 looks to be another personal project. Given Cruise’s penchant for performing his own gravity-defying stunts and insisting on cinematic realism, expectations are already sky-high.

There’s no official word yet on production timelines or release dates, but sources close to the project suggest the wheels are already in motion, with Cruise reportedly reuniting with Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

So, is it time to fasten your seatbelts and brace for another supersonic thrill ride? All signs point to yes. With Top Gun 3 on the horizon, one thing’s for sure, Maverick isn’t done flying just yet.Top of Form
